# Borrowing & Buying Power

## How much you can borrow

An account can borrow up to **4x its own capital**, giving up to **5x total buying power**. For example, with 1,000 USDC of your own you can borrow up to 4,000 USDC.

The actual amount is the smaller of what you asked for and what is allowed right now:

* the account's live own capital (net of existing debt and interest),
* the 4x leverage cap,
* the partner project's borrow caps (total and per account),
* any account-level override set by risk,
* and liquidity available in the vault.

If the result is below the minimum you signed for, the borrow fails instead of giving you less than you expect.

## How a borrow works

1. You sign a `BorrowIntent` (amount, minimum, expiry, nonce).
2. Anyone relays it. The Account checks the limits, records the debt and draws USDC from the vault in one transaction.
3. Funds go to your HyperCore trading account for your partner app to trade with.

## Repaying

Sign a `RepayIntent`. Repayment uses USDC already in the Account on HyperEVM (move it back from HyperCore first if needed). Interest is paid first, then principal. The signed amount is an upper limit; you never pay more than you owe.

## Interest

Interest accrues daily on outstanding principal at the current borrow rate and is collected periodically by LeverAcc. If an account does not have enough USDC on HyperEVM, the collector pulls funds back from HyperCore and, if still short, cancels orders and reduces positions. See [Fees & Rates](/leveracc-docs/how-it-works/fees-and-rates.md).
